While each of these categories are not exclusive from one another (an identity can contain elements of multiple logotypes), it is a good categorical definition for identifying the approximate style a client wants to convey. Wordmark
A Wordmark places primary focus on the name and the font chosen for the name. Graphic elements, if used at all, are used only to strengthen or embellish the type.

Lettermark
The Lettermark uses a separate graphic icon and typeface. The icon contains the initials of the company and act as a monogram for the business. The icon can include other graphic elements as well.

Icon - Integrated
The Integrated Icon Logo combines the graphic icon with the text. Both the text and the graphic have equal weight and are inseparable from one another.

The Vintage Icon Logo emulates historical design styles, such as Art Deco, Art Nouveau, or Victorian, and includes designs to be reminiscent of wrought iron, woodcuts, etc.

The Descriptive Icon Logo's uses a graphic that is a literal translation of the company, its products, business style, company personality, or of the direct benefits of using their product or service.

The Abstract Icon Logo's graphic is a symbolic illustration of the company, its products, and its business style/ethos. The abstract logo can often have many interpretations for the the end audience.
